Faust is a legendary German dramatic work in which Faust is a successful scientist who makes a deal with the devil, exchanging his soul for worldly pleasures and knowledge. In my literature, I challenge the structure of the bargain and explore its enduring presence in theater, anthropology, and philosophy, offering a new approach to a century-existing theme across Western thought. Rather than treating the bargain as a singular moral failure, this work examines the literary, alchemic, linguistic, and ethical conditions that make the pact appear necessary and inevitable.

It reflects on the Faustian myth itself and the way it continues to shape theater and human fascination with it. While discussion has often focused on the price of the pact — the forfeiture of Faust’s soul — this work shifts attention to the construction of the agreement: the persuasion, rhetorical maneuvering, and wordplay that render it not a mere transaction but a lasting linguistic and ethical construct, surviving changing artistic styles and intellectual paradigms while remaining continuously relevant and compelling.
